Barrandov – the area inside the Prague’s Hlubočepy district – boasts a rich history. The rocky cliff above the river was named after the world-famous French scientist and teacher Joachim Barrande, who radically influenced the advancement of palaeontological research. In the 1920s, the Havel brothers started a grand project in the area, building film studios and a small garden city. For a long time the area became a popular hiking destination for the Prague residents. They were enticed by the polished splendour of the film industry, which by then used to bring together the most famous celebrities of the 1930s and 40s. In the course of time, there emerged a residential quarter here – the Barrandov suburb. Since the 80s until only recently, it was just one of the remote destinations in Prague. In 2003 though, a new tram line was put into service here, connecting the area with the city centre, bringing Barrandov ever nearer to Prague. Barrandov sprang up as a rather attractive locality. It brings the possibility of living within an easy reach of the natural parks of Prokopské and Dalejské Valleys and the mentioned garden city, while offering great accessibility to Prague‘s centre. There are many amenities – shops, medical services, sports fields and schools. It is also the connectivity to the Prague beltway, quick access to the airport and the shopping centres of Zličín that contribute to a pleasant living.
